text-link-ads.com, shoppingads.com
I was initially hired by this company to as a
System Administrator and Developer for
three ad-serving products: text-link-ads.com, auctionads.com, and
shoppingads.com. My first responsibilities were to bring the backend
systems up-to-date in preparation for their newly purchased product,
auctionads. During my time at the company, I was able to accomplish the
following tasks:
-
Deployed and configured Groundwork for system monitoring of a 35+
system web/db/dev cluster
-
Created and configured a PXE boot system, via RHN, allowing a
1-click system re-OS, configuration and registration for additions to our cluster

Implemented a load balancing server
in python for use with our Coyote Point load balancer, to detect the
current state & load of any system on our cluster (system and
application wide), and automatically report the state to the LB for its use
-
Helped to implement a new ad server capable of handling slow
response times from our ad provider, and capable of scaling from 30k to 60k+
affiliates
-
Created provisions to prevent spam and abuse from a variety
of individuals outsourcing clicks to a third party companies in India and Europe
-
Maintained a 100% uptime
environment for text-link-ads, and brought a 30% uptime system cluster
and application up to 95% within a week of the project being purchased,
and to 100% shortly thereafter. (These projects generate more than
$1,000,000 per month, so consistent uptime was essential)
